FAQ
What is GPS?

GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System. GPS is able to show you your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, anywhere. GPS satellites, 24 in all, orbit 11,000 nautical miles above the Earth. They are continuously monitored by ground stations located worldwide. The satellites transmit signals that can be detected by anyone with a GPS receiver. Using the receiver, you can determine your location with great precision.

What is AVL?

AVL stands for Automatic Vehicle Location. The main elements of AVL are a GPS receiver and a communications network to transmit the GPS data from the bus to your operations center. Everyday Wireless AVL solutions can transmit GPS data over either a Cellular wireless network or a UHF-radio based wireless network.

Will I have any on-going airtime charges?

It depends. The Everyday Wireless system was designed specifically to meet the needs and budget constraints of pupil transportation. Our proprietary radio-based unit transmits data every 10 seconds with no monthly fees. Our cellular-based unit transmits data every 10 seconds with a low monthly fee. http://www.everydaywireless.com/realtime.html

Will the radio-based or cellular-based bus transceivers interfere with the existing voice radios on our buses?

No. The radio-based bus transceivers operate on a different frequency. Drivers can use their regular radios whenever they need to. The cellular-based units have no effect on the current 2-way radios, and in fact, with the Sprint/Nextel Direct Dispatch Voice option could potentially eliminate the need for a 2-way radio system.

How reliable is the communications network?

Our patented solutions are totally configurable to provide 100% coverage of your district. We will work with you to insure there are NO dead-spots or drop-zones in your coverage. We have customers with very challenging terrain, such as Colorado Springs, CO and still we are able to blanket the district with 100% coverage. Our cellular-based system uses the Sprint/Nextel iDEN network, and because of our extremely efficient data compression, our data packets get through even in areas where voice calls are sometimes dropped.
